This paper is written in the format to be used for all manuscripts and illustrates the final appearance for the symposium papers. It is very important to follow these instructions to both ensure that your manuscript is quickly accepted, and to present a consistent and professional looking symposium proceedings publication. 1. Introduction All papers should be written in English. The title should be followed by the name(s) of the author(s), the institution and its address. The outline of the paper can be set out using appropriate headings, i.e. ABSTRACT, 1. Introduction, 2. Methods, 3. Results, 4. Discussion, and 5. Conclusions. In order to quickly publish the proceedings of papers, items listed below must reach Dr. R. Enomoto on or before the deadline date of: 30 November, 2002 . * Send an electronic version of the manuscript (a latexed file. EPS files of figures) by E-mail to enomoto@icrr.u-tokyo.ac.jp AND/OR submit * a camera-ready hard copy of the manuscript with all the figures (photos) pasted in properly, and * hard copy(ies) of the original figure(s)/photo(s) via airmail to Dr. Ryoji Enomoto Institute for Cosmic Ray Research, University of Tokyo, 5-1-5 Kashiwa-no-Ha, Kashiwa City,Chiba 277-8582, Japan We are happy to receive figure(s)/ photo(s) in EPS formated file(s) by E-mail. But, you cannot omit sending the hard copies of the figure(s)/photo(s) by airmail even in this case. As you may notice, the LATEX template produces ‘Entry Form for the Proceedings’ as a supplementary page after the manuscript pages. ² Please do not forget to fill out this form and submit together with the camera-ready manuscript. Ensure that the symbols and letters in the Figures and Tables are large enough to withstand an 80% reduction. The use of EPS file for Figures is acceptable. Please use the same style for Figures and Tables as shown in the next page: 6. Footnotes The use of footnotes is discouraged. In exceptional cases place them at the foot of the page, separated from the text by a line 4 cm long, and type them in SINGLE LINE spacing ensuring they remain within the pages outline (See the below footnote example.¤ All footnotes should be inside the typing area. 7. List of Symbols/Nomenclature A List of Symbols is strongly recommended at the end of the paper placed before the References. When a List of Symbols is used it is advised that only the ¤This is footnote example. most important/new symbols be defined in the text of the paper. References A list of references should be placed at the end of the paper. Use SINGLE LINE spacing and start each reference on a new line. References are to be listed alphabetically by the last name of the first author. When two or more references by the same author are listed, the year of publication is be taken into account with the earliest work being listed first. See the below example: 1.
